Sigil and Pan

Here are new submissions from Nikki. The first is a unique sigil and the lower is Pan.  Sigils have a long history of magical use going back thousands of years and are quite popular among modern pagans as well as other magic practitioners. This sigil "represents the power to manifest the will" according to Nikki. And Pan is a horned god of wildness, music, mountains, shepherds and their flocks and companion of the nymphs. Thanks for sharing Nikki!

Amazing Horned God

This positively gorgeous Cernunnos comes to us from reader Richard who says:
It is a representation of The Horned God, Cernunnos, or Herne. To me it is symbolic with my connection to him as one of my patrons and was done as a devotional act to honor our bond.
Thanks so much to Richard for sharing his stunning tattoo!

Dualing Arm Tattoos

Click image(s) to see the larger version(s).

This image comes from Rebecca and were inked at Phoenix Tattoo Company out of Tempe, Arizona. Here's what Rebecca had to say about her tattoos:
I put some thought into the symbolism of the tattoos when I got them done. I have a sun with the Libra sign and the horned god symbol on my right arm. They are on my right arm because in Wicca and Paganism the right hand side of your altar is for God and male spirituality. I have the Libra sign because my amazing husband is a Libra. I have the opposite on my left arm. I have a moon, Scorpio symbol, and the triple goddess symbol. For similar reasons-goddesses and female spirituality go on the left hand side and I am a Scorpio. I love the balance of my tattoos! I am representing myself, the goddess, my husband, and the god!
Thanks to Rebecca for sharing her tattoos!

Cernunnos

This tattoo comes from the Flickrstream of Mateoutah and is licensed by Creative Commons.

The original image comes from the famous Gundestrup cauldron dating from approximately the 1st century BCE. It was found in 1891 in a peat bog in Denmark and features what is probably the most popular image of Cernunnus, the Celtic god of fertility and the wild.

You can find more Cernunnos tattoos that have been featured on NeoPagan Ink here and here.

Cernunnos

This gorgeous Cernunnos comes from Moongrouse which is in another language but features several neopagan tattoos and is well worth a look. Some of my readers may recall a post from September that featured another tattoo version of Cernunnos. I think we can all agree that this latest tattoo is much, much better. Cernunnos is a Celtic fertility god of animals, nature and the Underworld who may have first arisen as a god painted on cave walls dating back to 13,000 BCE. The picture to the right is a detail from the famous Gundestrup Cauldron found in Denmark in 1891. It is made of silver, features several mythological motifs and probably dates from the 1st century BCE.

Buck

This tattoo came from here. This particular image reminds me of something I can't name. Perhaps it's an image from a famous painting and my readers know it?

The Sorcerer

I know this picture is tiny but I couldn't help sharing it once I found it. This tattoo comes from the Just the Life of a Wiccan Mom blog. This is the first tattoo of this kind I've ever found. It comes from "The Sorcerer", an image from the Trois Freres cavern in France. It dates from approximately 13,000 BCE and may be the precursor to later Horned Gods like Cernunnos and Pan. I would share an image of the actual cave art but it is so degraded that all we have to go on is a modern drawing of it. The Sorcerer is a fascinating bit of history as it could be a vision of the earliest shamans in a state of ecstatic communion with the gods. It could also be an image of a hunter preparing for the hunt, or both, as hunting for survival and early shamanism would have likely been closely intertwined. Note the human feet and genitalia, bear like paws and what some people consider a bird-like face. This is a perfect example of therianthropy which features in nearly every ancient culture on the planet.

And this is the finished product. Pretty neat, huh?
