Flowers

Ripped from Rate My Ink. April 28-30 marks the ancient Roman celebration of Floralia in honor of the goddess of youth and flowers, Flora. This was a springtime festival which included sexual license and incorporated symbols of fertility such as beans and seeds.

Amazing Norse Back Piece

This absolutely stunning back piece, with Odin and Thor, comes from Rate My Ink and was created by Mike Austin of Austin Tattoos out of Ontario, Canada.

Odin is the all father of the Norse pantheon, the one eyed ruler who controls magic, war and death as well as poetry and wisdom. Thor is one of his sons who, with his mighty hammer Mjollnir, fights the enemies of the Norse gods, the frost giants and controls thunder.

Triple Moons

More triple moons from Rate My Ink. Created by Vince Paolucci at Oceanside Ink in California.

The triple moons so prevalent in modern paganism are directly related to the phases of a woman's lifetime. The waxing crescent represents the young maiden growing to maturity. The full moon represents the mature woman full of possibility/child. The waning crescent represents the aging, yet still powerful, crone.

Ahura Mazda

The tattoo comes from The Science Tattoo Emporium. The relief is from the palace of Xerxes at Persepolis. In Persian mythology Ahura Mazda is the supreme god, the creator of heaven and Earth.

Odin and Sleipnir

This amazing tattoo is also from Rate My Ink and was created by Donna D'Amour of Art with a Pulse of Colorado Springs.

The tattoo depicts Odin, the supreme Norse god, on his mighty eight legged horse Sleipnir. Sleipnir is the offspring of the trickster god Loki who, in the form of a mare, mated with Svaldifari the stallion. Sleipnir can travel over water and land as well as travel through the air.

Kali Outline

Another tattoo from Rate My Ink. This was created by Mike Hutton of Tattoo Faction out of North Olmsted, Ohio.

Kali is the Hindu goddess of death and destruction who holds even the mighty Vishnu in her sway, or under her foot as the case may be. Often depicted holding decapitated heads and wearing various severed body parts on her person she is a fierce, powerful and truly terrifying goddess. But she doesn't just kill people. She destroys things that need destroying like ignorance as she maintains order in the world. She is one of those amazingly fascinating deities who rightfully inspires great fear but is also beneficial.

Unique Astrology Back Tattoo

The owner of this tattoo calls it "Aquarius sun...Leo moon...Capricorn rising..." and it comes from Rate My Ink. Ain't it cool? I've never seen another tattoo like it. I know it's not the best photo but it's so unique I just had to post it.

Egyptian Symbols

This beautiful and unique mish mash of Egyptian symbols comes from Rate My Ink and was created by Gabriel Mendez at Stained Skin of Columbus, Ohio.

Pretty cool?

The eye is alternately called the Eye of Ra, udjat or the Eye of Horus, wedjet, depending on which period in history the symbol is lifted from. It is a protective symbol in which royal power from the gods can be utilized. The small cross arms, with the crook and flail, is the symbol of the pharoah as only he, or ruling deities like Osiris, may hold these items.

Hunter S. Thompson Ink

This very cool Hunter S. Thompson tattoo, after an image by Ralph Steadman, was created by Geri of Pandora's Ink.

This is my very first artist submission. Yay!! Geri inked this on her husband and had this to say about it:
It's Ralph Steadman's work, a portrait of Hunter S. Thompson that is the cover of his book "The Joke's Over". Hunter is my biggest hero, my husband and I love him dearly. Ralph's an incredible artist. His work just oozes .... well, too many words come to mind, lol. So, yes, it just oozes. :)

Thanks so much to Geri for sharing her awesome work!

Horse

This gorgeous horse tattoo comes from Rate My Ink.

10 April marks the last day of the Megalesia, the Roman festival of Cybele, the Great Mother. On this day it was tradition to hold sacred horse races, thus, a horse, of course.

My Dreamcatcher

So this tattoo is a mixture of cultures. My mom's side of the family is part Irish and part American Indian and that's what this tattoo reflects. This was done by Jake Dalton. It's been a while since this was done so most of the white has faded, but still lookin' pretty good to me. My brother, sister and our closest cousin who is like our sister all got these on our right legs just above the ankle. Yeah, it's a family thing.
